Corona Virus Topples a Football Coach in Europe

Giuseppe Sannino

The Hungarian Football Club “Budapest Honvéd FC” excluded its Italian coach, Giuseppe Sannino, as a precaution in light of the recent appearance of the Coronavirus in Italy.

the Hungarian club said in a statement. “The replacement of coach Giuseppe Sannino and his assistant, Alessandro Resente, was a necessary step, because they may have contacted people living in areas where the virus is present,”

The statement added: “Honved Club is committed to facing the health crisis and limiting the spread of the epidemic. As a precautionary measure, the administration decided to appoint an alternative training coach in order to protect the fans, players, and colleagues at the club.”

The club said that Estefan Bisonte will lead the team in its next match, tomorrow in the local league.

Since its appearance late last year, the virus has infected nearly 80,000 people and killed more than 2,700, most of them in China.

Italy revealed that more than 400 people were infected with the virus, most of them in the industrial regions of Lombardy and Veneto, while Italian citizens or people who visited Italy recently were infected with the virus in Greece, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, Croatia, and France in the past few days.

Sannino, 62 years old, took charge of several Italian clubs, alongside Watford, England and Greek Levadiakos, before being appointed to the technical head of the Hungarian club in May.
