Karolína Plíšková is the Champion of Eastbourne Tournament

Karolína Plíšková

Third-seeded world champion Karolína Plíšková of the United States won the title of the Eastbourne tennis tournament on Saturday with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over German Angelique Kerber in the run-up to Wimbledon.

The Czech Player had a strong performance this week in the grass-court tournament, in a final match that took only about an hour to drop the world’s top-ranked former title and make their third title this season with no loss.

“Throughout the week I performed almost perfect (…) but all the matches were not as easy as the result suggests, especially today,” said Karolína Plíšková.

“Especially on the grass, this serve is working. My game I think from the baseline…normally you’re never gonna ace 20 times with Angie, but you need to just step after the serve and just to be aggressive,”.

“I lost my serve in the first set, but I felt, you know, I could still make this game because I was up in the game. But I think I was serving well, just clever using the slice wide which was working on her. That’s what I did. That’s why I think I was holding my serve quite easily.

And added “I felt like I was having a lot of chances in the second set, but, you know, it’s always with her you can have some chances but she can fight back because she’s trying to do everything possible.

“On the grass, her shots sometimes just stay too low, so maybe I miss a little bit more during the second set, but I think I didn’t do much wrong today.”

While Kerber is preparing to defend her Wimbledon title, which starts on Monday at the All England Lawn.

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, also known as the All England Club, based at Church Road, Wimbledon, London, England, is a private members’ club. It is Initially an amateur event that occupied club members and their friends for a few days each summer, the championships have become far more prominent than the club itself. However, it still operates as a members’ tennis club. (Source: Wikipedia)
