Maria Sharapova: “I Did Not Enjoy Playing in Open America”
Maria Sharapova, the world number one, has made a surprise at her participation in the US Open.
Maria Sharapova booked her fourth round at the US Open with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Hungary’s Patty Schnyder.
The US Open kicked off Monday and will run until September 9 in New York City on Flushing Meadows.
“At first I made a lot of mistakes, and Patti was moving well on the pitch. The competition was very strong. It took me time to drop it and beat it,” Sharapova said of her win over Sneijder.
“I did not really enjoy playing or being here in New York City when I was in my youth,” she said of her feelings at the US Open.
“It was terrifying at first when I was a teenager, but I think in the last decade since I started winning, I loved playing here, I learned how to use the energies.”
Sharapova will clash in the second round with her Romanian counterpart Sorana Cirstea in a difficult match against the Russian player.
