Spanish sources have pointed to the request of Barcelona star Lionel Messi to Barcelona administration team to conclude two deals during the winter transfer market to strengthen the ranks of the club.
The 31-year-old star, according to sources close to the Catalan club, believes that Barcelona’s problems lie mainly in the back of the defense, and that technical director Eric Abidal should look for two alternatives during the winter.
Messi named two names, one of the winners of the 2018 World Cup in the France national team, Benjamin Pavard, as well as his compatriot Ferland Mendy, to strengthen the weaknesses of the team.
The 22-year-old showed impressive level with his team in the World Cup. He is currently active in the Bundesliga and is linked by reports to move to Bayern Munich in a huge deal, but nothing official so far.
Benjamin Pavard had led Stuttgart to the second Bundesliga title in the 2016-2017 season, and most importantly, he has played all his matches this season, winning the confidence of coach Tayfun Korkut.
Now with the dwindling performance by Barcelona backers, Sergi Roberto, and Nélson Semedo, Pavard is an excellent candidate for the right-hand side of the two blocks, especially with his young age and impressive performance.
On the other hand, despite the strong relationship between Messi and the main left-back of the team, Jordi Alba, but the age of the player (30 years old) may be a reason for replacing him with Olympique Lyon rising player Ferland Mendy.
Eric Abidal is mainly aiming for the 23-year-old Mendy, who sees him as the legitimate heir to Jordi Alba because of his excellent performances with the French team.
