Officially … Tokyo Olympics 2020 Postponed

The International Olympic Committee officially announced the postponement of the “Tokyo 2020” Olympic Games due to the spread of the new Coronavirus and the lack of knowledge of the future spread of the virus, in addition to the great pressure from all sports federations around the world.

The International Olympic Committee announced the postponement decision by an official statement posted on its website, when it referred to a meeting of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe with the President of the International Committee Thomas Bach and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for Tokyo 2020, Mori Yoshiro, the President of the Japanese Olympic Federation Hashimoto Seiko and the Governor of Tokyo Yuriko Koike, In addition to other members of the Olympic Executive Committee.

According to the statement, the meeting, especially Thomas Bach, the Japanese Prime Minister, and Shinzo Abe, expressed their deep concern about the spread of “Covid 19” virus in all countries of the world, what it does in people’s lives and its negative impact on the athletes’ preparations for the games.

“In light of the current conditions and according to the data provided by the World Health Organization, the President of the Olympic Committee and the Prime Minister of Japan decided to postpone the Olympic Games in Tokyo until the summer of 2021, in order to ensure the safety and health of all athletes who will participate in the Olympic Games.”
