Tottenham Star Needs Gold Medal to Skip Military Service

Tottenham player Sun Heung Min

Tottenham player Sun Hyung Min is one step away from his last chance, perhaps to avoid military service, after South Korea beat Vietnam in the semi-finals of the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia until September 2.

Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 win over Vietnam led them to a final in which they will meet Japan.

If the 26-year-old wins the gold medal at the Asian Games, he will be exempted from military service in his country. The loss of this opportunity will push him away from the football world for almost two years, which means the difficulty of returning to play again in same team.

Korea needed extra time to beat Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals, and the moment when Sun Hyung-min’s teammate was sent to a penalty he could not afford to follow.

The gold is a chance to survive the military service, which will allow him to continue his career and shine more in Tottenham under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino.
