Argentine boxer Lucas Matthysse announced his retirement on Thursday, two weeks after losing with Philippine legend Manny Pacquiao.

“I thank all those who have followed me for their most beautiful boxing,” said Matthysse, through his official account on the social networking site Instagram.

“Today I have decided to take off my gloves, I am on the threshold of a new phase in my life.”

The 35-year-old boxer said he was proud of his ability to compete at the highest levels for 10 consecutive years and of fulfilling his dream of winning the title of world champion.

Matthysse lost the knockout to Pakayo in Kuala Lumpur on July 15, in a match of the world champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA).

Matthysse, the world boxing champion, won 39 victories, 36 by knockout, and five defeats.
